Now Playing – Sons Of The Prophet - Park Square continues its 2016-2017 season with the area premiere of Stephen Karam’s celebrated and searing drama, Sons of the Prophet. Jef Hall-Flavin stages this explosively funny play about forbearance and compassion by one of the nation’s most impressive rising playwrights.  If to suffer is to live, then Joseph Douiahy (Sasha Andreev*) is more alive than anybody. The marathon champion has chronic pain. His publisher boss (Angela Timberman*) is overbearing. His father and uncle (Michael Tezla*) are ailing. His brother (Maxwell Collyard) is a handful. And that’s just a typical day. Joseph struggles to manage a dead-end job, mysterious pain, and a family tragedy. The only thing more dysfunctional than his health is his nonexistent love life as a gay Lebanese-American in small-town Pennsylvania. Once he let slip that he’s distantly related to Kahlil Gibran, the author of The Prophet, his boss began dogging him to write a family memoir and when a reporter gets too close, things get really weird with his boss. Joseph’s wit and worn-out family may be all that’s left to keep him sane.  All performances are in the company’s Proscenium Stage in Saint Paul’s historic Hamm Building, 20 W. Seventh Place.  Ticket prices: Previews: $27 and $37. Regular Run: $40 and $60. Discounts are available for seniors, those under age 30, college students and groups.  Running now through June 5th.  Tickets are on sale at the Park Square ticket office, 20 W. Seventh Place, or by phone: 651.291.7005, (12 noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday), or online at www.parksquaretheatre.org.

Now Playing - Plymouth Playhouse presents:  Big Pants & Botox - Produced by Troupe America, Inc., the one-woman comedy.  The hit comedy, BIG PANTS & BOTOX, written by Louise Roche, who is also credited with the popular GIRLS NIGHT, takes the audience on an emotional roller-coaster ride as she tells the sometimes comical, sometimes emotional and always inspirational tale of Barbara and her journey having just survived an eventful “significant” birthday. The story follows her struggles with turning 50 and everything else that comes with reaching middle age. Her husband is addicted to gambling and can’t be found anywhere, her family is overbearing, she’s raising her daughter and fitting time in for her friends who are fun and wacky while weighing the benefits of ʻBig Pants and Botox. Barbara inspires self-reflection no matter what age.  BIG PANTS & BOTOX invites audiences to ditch the romance and fluff for a hilarious, emotional and ultimately uplifting evening. It’s a great girlfriend’s night out!  Running through August 14, 2016 Call Box Office - 763-553-1600 Ext 1 Order online - plymouthplayhouse.com

Now Playing - Chanhassen Dinner Theatre Presents BEAUTY AND THE BEAST - A prince harshly turns a beggar woman away from shelter in his castle. She is secretly an enchantress, who, angered by the prince’s lack of compassion, changes the prince into a hideous Beast and all the castles’ human inhabitants into living objects. The enchantress tells the Beast that before the last petal falls from an enchanted rose, he must find true love or all will remain forever altered. Not far from the castle, in a small village, Belle lives with her father Maurice, an inventor. Belle is seen as odd by all but Gaston, a handsome yet highly egotistical man, who wants to marry her. Belle’s father gets lost in the woods and stumbles upon the Beast’s castle where he is welcomed by the walking, talking clock and candlestick. However, when the Beast discovers him, he is taken captive. When Belle finds out, she rushes to his aid and trades her freedom for her father’s. The Beast is harsh at first, but eventually the two develop something deeper.  Running now through September 24, 2016.  For tickets call 952-934-1525 or order online at www.ChanhassenDT.com.
