Opening October 5th -
Bye Bye Birdie - Chanhassen Dinner Theatres brings
its audiences another new Main Stage production with
the musical classic, Bye Bye Birdie; and get
prepared to "Put on a Happy Face!" When Elvis-like
rock & roll star Conrad Birdie is about to be inducted
into the Army, the teen nation is united by a national
publicity contest where Birdie will bid a typical
American teenage girl goodbye with an all-American
kiss live on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Kim MacAfee of
Sweet Apple, Ohio wins the honor and all the
telephones in her town are ringing off the hook. When
Birdie arrives in Sweet Apple people of all ages begin
to swoon and the entire town is reeling. A satire
done with the fondest affection, Chanhassen Dinner
Theatres breathes new life into this Broadway
Tony-Award winning musical of the '60s. The
imaginative musical score includes such hits as:
"Going Steady," "Put On A Happy Face," "Telephone
Hour," "A Lot of Livin' To Do" and "Kids." Bye Bye
Birdie and its theme of parents and teens will
still resonate with audiences of today. For

Guthrie Theater - Tales
From Hollywood - Now through October
27, 2012.
By Christopher Hampton, directed by Ethan McSweeny - This
production contains mature subject matter, adult
language, smoking and nudity. Lights! Camera! Aktion!
Where did German writers and other artists go when
they escaped the rise of the Third Reich? To
Hollywood, of course. Hampton mines the oddness of
German intellectuals in Tinseltown for both humor and
humanity. Featuring theater pioneer Bertolt Brecht and
novelists Thomas and Heinrich Mann, Tales from
Hollywood is narrated by Ödön von Horváth, a real-life
Eastern European playwright. Horváth is our guide
through the story – of writers who barely speak
English being asked to write a sequel to Bedtime for
Bonzo, of émigrés struggling with their new home and
all that infernal California sunshine, of exiles
trying to forget old demons and reconcile choices
they’ve made in the past. Featuring a large ensemble
cast, Tales from Hollywood is Hampton’s favorite play
and often considered his best. Winner of the Evening
Standard Award for Best Comedy.

Now thru November 11,
2012 - Appomattox at the Guthrie Theater -
Separated by 100 years and 600 miles, the play's events are
linked by issues at the core of the American soul:
freedom, rights, race and a stubborn belief in and
hope for a brighter future. April 1865. Ulysses
S. Grant, general of the armies of the United States,
meets Robert E. Lee, general of the confederate
forces, at Appomattox Court House to sign the treaty
that will end the bloodiest war in U.S. history. The
days preceding the signing are depicted through the
eyes of President Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary,
of Julia Grant and Mary Custis Lee and of others who
were on the front lines of history. Will this be the
healing act needed to bring a divided country back
together? February 1965. St. James Baptist
Church deacon Jimmie Lee Jackson is shot by an Alabama
state trooper during a peaceful protest for civil
rights. The incident provides the spark for Martin
Luther King, Jr.'s protest march from Selma to
Montgomery and for Lyndon Johnson to galvanize his
political influence to push the Voting Rights Act
through Congress. This production contains mature
subject matter, adult language and smoking. Run time:
2 hours and 55 minutes including one intermission.
